Our Story
Hi, we are Shiza & Natalie, co-founders of Kynd Period.
It all began with an idea: what if sustainable period products were available for everyone?

We cofounded Kynd Period in Bali in 2022, driven by our shared passion for environmental sustainability and social justice.
2017
Kynd’s story begins in Sri-Lanka in 2017, when Natalie started a crowdfunding initiative to raise money to buy 300 reusable pads for sexual abuse survivors.
The campaign addressed a social problem in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way. With these pads, the women were able to go to school and work, confident in the knowledge that they had long-lasting period products.
Natalie was amazed at how enthusiastically her family and friends donated. Addressing the problem of plastic pollution and period poverty at the same time seemed to resonate with people, and inspired her to do more.

2021
In 2021, Natalie moved to Bali, where she was introduced to the incredible sustainable sourcing expert End Triana (now a co-owner of Kynd) who helped her design the very first Kynds. Natalie and End spent almost every day driving across the island, visiting dye houses, fabric shops, tailors, and manufacturers. Natalie learned a lot about supply chains during this time, and we experimented with many different fabrics. It was important to us that the final product would uphold the highest levels of sustainability and ethics in it’s production. We wanted to make period underwear that could be a force for good, all the way from farm to fit.
2022
In 2022 Natalie met Shiza, a journalist and feminist activist from Pakistan who was also living in Bali. Shiza had been working for development organisations on gender and climate justice for over ten years, and was interested in how we might be able to tackle both issues with the period underwear. Shiza came on board as a co-founder and Kynd Period was officially born!
Unfortunately, despite our efforts, the technology to make the underwear completely leakproof wasn’t available in Indonesia, and so we moved our production to where the idea started…Sri Lanka! Meanwhile, both of us moved to London, England so we could bring Kynds to the UK market.

2024
By 2024, we had perfected our Kynds! We had gone through months of testing and development tweaks to ensure that they were comfortable, long-lasting, and absolutely 100% leakproof!
We pitched our idea to Untld, a non-profit supporting promising social entrepreneurs and we were granted the UnLtd Start-up Award! This was such a proud moment for us! 🏆
2025…
So here we are almost in 2025. After years of waiting, we are finally ready to launch and we’d love for you to be a part of our journey!
Our Kickstarter begins in February, and we will be pre-selling 1500 pairs of underwear, allowing us to donate 1500 pairs through our partners to asylum seekers, refugees and people in need.
The successful kickstarter will allow us to place our first bulk order, make our first set of donations and be closer to our mission for making safe, sustainable, and ethically-produced period products available to everyone.
We dream of a day when no one has to miss school, stay home from work or be held back in life by their inability to afford period products. Your support can help us achieve this dream.
Are you ready to be a part of the sustainable period movement?
